Before we talk about our activities we would like to tell you about our Vision and Misson
VISION: Rural residents of the village Jambhulpada and of its surroundings need to adopt to the changing developmental environment.
MISSION: Every resident of the region to acquire and attain at least one skill that will enable him/her to earn livelihood for his/her family successfully.
What we do ........
We are a non-governmental organisation with a difference. We are not only involved in community development, but also help underprivileged children in backward rural areas by providing them with access to quality education. In addition, we empower women by conducting training sessions and workshops to develop various income generating skills. We bring forth a platform to hone their skills by offering necessary resources and techniques.
Activity Track
Since its inception, the organization has implemented various multisectoral programs on Education, Health, Income Generation, Skill Development etc. Way back in the year 1978, SHS started ‘Balwadies’ at several remote settlements especially in hamlets of the tribal population, which were supported later on by Maharashtra State Social Welfare Board and now have been successfully merged with the government scheme of ‘Anganwadies’.
Following activities give bird’s eye view of the organization's achievements so far.
Education
- SHS acquired land for school in Jambhulpada and constructed a two-story building for high school providing adequate space to the students.
- SHS has also constructed a ‘Bal-Vikas Kendra’ for other educational activities.
- SHS gives scholarships to the students of 1st to 12th std. based on their merits and economical conditions.
- The organisation arranges study sessions for IX and X standard students to provide academic guidance by expert educationists.
- This region consists of plain as well as hilly land. Many students have to walk down even up to 10 kms, which takes about two hours to reach school. SHS distributes bicycles every year to such needy students.
- SHS conducts regular activities like drawing, singing and craft competitions.
- SHS holds educational camps (one day/residential) at local level and at the cities namely Pune, Thane, Mumbai.
- SHS also organizes exposure visits to various industries for students.
Health
- Health camp especially on Gynecological checkup of women
- Motivating women to go for medical check-up.
- Distribution of Protein to children.
Skill Development
- SHS has a Skill Development Centre. Training courses for skills like Electrician, Tailoring, Beautician, Catering are conducted in the center. Basic Computer Training is also conducted.
- Students are also trained for MS-CIT examination.
Women Development
- SHS has programs for motivating women of all the communities to participate in social as well as economical activities through camps and provides training. Self-Help Groups have been formed. The organization is trying to settle them through Income Generation activities.
- Celebrating Women’s Day.
Community Organisation
- SHS had taken a major role in rehabilitation of villagers in 1989 when many villages were completely wiped out in the flood causing more than 100 casualties.
- Enabling residents of KATKARI community to obtain various certificates like CASTE CERTIFICATE, RATION CARD, BIRTH AND DEATH CERTIFICATE, DOMICILE CERTIFICATE etc.
